Collaboration at Work at QFI March 2012

 

Collaborative Industries (CI) supports a wide variety of organizations. Two of these organizations (Developmental Services of Iowa, Inc and Quality First Insurance, LLC) have worked together to strive towards best business practices and ultimately decrease an ever rising expense, Workers Compensation. In 2011, Developmental Services of Iowa (DSI), a customer of Quality First Insurance (QFI), was in the high risk workers compensation pool. The human service industry as a whole has a high rate of employee injuries.

 

Due to the significant need for risk management, the QFI risk management department was determined to provide solutions that would improve business practice, employee awareness, and potentially effect a decrease in workers compensation claims. The intent was to improve the safety for DSI's employees and as a result decrease the amount of premiums paid.

 

In order to do this, Risk Manager, Dorene Spies created a safety program with and for DSI. This program was called Safety Bingo. To help support the kick off of the program, Dorene became a part of DSI's safety committee as a part of her Risk Management support to the organization. To date this program has been in place for 6 months. As a result, DSI's employees report feeling safer in the workplace, understanding Work Comp to a greater degree, and DSI was able to see a $20,000 decrease in Worker Compensation claims. This is just one example of how QFI is supporting their customers.
